Colin Farrell Nears Deal to Star as Sgt. Rock in Upcoming DC Studios Film

Washington [US], March 18 (ANI): Performer Colin Farrell , who became prominent as a classical DC villain in ' The Penguin ' is reportedly in negotiations to rejoin the DC Universe in '. Sgt. Rock ', an action movie set during World War II, directed by Luca Guadagnino for DC Studios.

The decision follows Daniel Craig’s announcement of his exit from the film project he was previously attached to, with him now potentially joining Greta Gerwig and Netflix’s adaptation of Narnia, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In February, DC Studios leaders James Gunn and Peter Safran mentioned that Craig had not been offered the role. They said that the production would start this summer only if they found the ideal actor.

Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, Sgt. Rock is a World War II veteran who made his debut in comics back in 1959. The series featuring him became one of DC’s longest-standing publications. According to reports, both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have been considered for the role at different points throughout Hollywood’s prolonged efforts to adapt this character into a film, spanning several decades.

The screenplay comes from screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, who wrote Guadagnino's Challengers and Queer.

Farrell depicted Penguin as a vicious crime boss in The Batman, Matt Reeves' dark interpretation of the Caped Crusader. He later reprised this role. The Penguin , an HBO offshoot that garnered extensive praise and accolades. Farrell received a SAG Award, Golden Globe Award, Critics' Choice Award, and Saturn Award, along with numerous other honors, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Previously, Sony Pictures set a new release date for the forthcoming romance drama 'A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,' featuring Margot Robbie. Colin Farrell The movie, originally scheduled for theater release on May 9, has been pushed back and will now debut on September 19.

Directed by Kogonada and written by Seth Reiss, 'A Big Bold Beautiful Journey' is described as "an imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them."
