Björk Unveils Global Cinema Release for "Cornucopia" Concert Film
The Icelandic sensation Björk has declared that her upcoming concert movie "Cornucopia" will have a selective theatrical distribution worldwide.
The forthcoming launch, done in partnership with Mercury Studios, is said to encapsulate the enchantment of the artist's grandest live show yet.
The theatrical release runs for 1 hour and 39 minutes and includes an extra showing of three music videos, handpicked by the renowned Icelandic artist.
Approximately 500 theaters across more than 25 nations, such as Germany, the UK, Denmark, Sweden, and the United States, plan to debut it on May 7th. In contrast, Spain has scheduled its release for May 8th, with France slated to receive it on May 11th.
"The Cornucopia concert film provides a special chance to revel in the complete enchantment of the initial performance with pristine clarity in 4K and immersive audio through Dolby Atmos within a theater setting, rendering it an essential viewing experience for loyal enthusiasts as well as first-time viewers," states a press statement.
The Cornucopia concert tour, inspired by Björk’s studio albums 'Utopia' (released in 2017) and subsequently 'Fossora' (launched in 2022), took place between May 2019 and December 2023. This global trek included 45 performances spanning North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. The event combined elements of live music with theatrical performance, directed by renowned Argentine film director Lucretia Martel.
Amy Freshwater, Vice President of Content Acquisition at Mercury Studios, stated: "Watching a visual artist's concert on the big screen transcends merely viewing a performance—it allows you to fully immerse yourself in their artistic vision as Björk conceived with 'Cornucopia'.”
In another instance, Björk explicitly stated that she believes Spotify "may be the most detrimental development for artists."
Talking to the Swedish publication Dagens Nyheter, the Icelandic artist said lately mentioned her inclination towards producing fresh tunes rather than going on tour .
“I consider live performances to always remain a significant aspect of my work,” she stated, further noting: “I am fortunate as I no longer need to rely on tour income for fundraising, something many emerging artists frequently have to endure.”
In this regard," she went on, "Spotify might be the most detrimental development for musicians. Streaming has reshaped an entire society and influenced an entire generation of artists.
This isn't the first time Björk has expressed criticism towards streaming platforms, and she has previously declined to have her music available on them. her album ‘Vulnicura’ set to launch on Spotify in 2015.
