Yew Sin-Ee Yi through to quarter-finals of Malaysia Open
PETALING JAYA: Pairs Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi made Malaysia the second nation having doubles pair qualifies for the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open after beating their South Korea rivals in a hard-won game.
In a 68-minute match, the world No 24 pair triumphed over Kang Min Nyuk-Jin Yong with a score of 23-21, 16-21, 21-18, sending the Malaysian spectators into a state of euphoria at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil this afternoon.
This is Min Nyuk-Jin Yong’s first collaboration with each other in an international competition.
Yew Sin-Ee Yi has caused a major upset in the first round of the Super 1000 tournament by coming from behind to overcome Indonesia’s world number 4 pair Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto in three games.
Earlier, national mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei dominated their way to the quarter-finals with a comfortable 21-8, 21-14 win over Taiwan’s Lu Ming Che-Hung/En Tzu.
