Ancient stone bearing mystery carving found where Jesus ‘walked on water’

A mysterious stone engraved with carvings nearly 1,700 years old has been discovered in a historically rich region believed to be where Jesus Christ is said to have "walked" on water.

The volcanic basalt block, inscribed with ancient Greek text, could provide new insights into the Roman Empire’s governance over the cities in the area.

Scientists have identified the stone, unearthed in Upper Galilee at the site of Abel Beth Maacah, as a boundary marker during the Roman Empire.

The inscriptions on the basalt stone date back to 1720, during the reign of Caesar Marcus Aurelius Alexander, offering a rare glimpse into the administrative practices of that era.

Professor Uzi Leibner from the Hebrew University explained why this discovery has a significant impact.

He said: "Finding a boundary stone like this not only sheds light on ancient land ownership and taxation but also provides a tangible connection to the lives of individuals who navigated these complex systems nearly two millennia ago."
